What are some tips for an economical Florida vacation for myself and two of my Canadian friends?
I live in Georgia and my two best friends live in Toronto and Vancouver, BC. In the year 2013 we want to have a vacation together in Florida. I know that airfare is not likely something I can find a discount on, but I’d love some opinions on how I might have a fun and economical stay in Florida.
The only thing we know for sure that we want to see is that Harry Potter world. The rest is all negotiable. I’d like tips about hotel stays, or if it’s better to take a cruise, etc.
For additional information, my parents (Orlando residents) both have timeshare ownership at Orange Lake resort, which means that if we’re there or nearby, we have access to those facilities for free, as well as discounts on their fee-based activities. I think they get a modest discount for purchasing further vacation time there, too.
We three friends don’t really have much money, but we’re saving up now to make this possible. Please let us know any tips to have the most fun in Florida on a budget!
I personally love coupons. There is a great coupon book called the Entertainment Book. It has discounts on restaurants, car rentals, small local attractions and more. The book is about $25 but will save you so much more.

If you want to do the theme parks there really is no way to get discounts. However, since you have parents that are residents they should be able to get you any Florida discounts that are being offered at the local attractions. You will have to be lucky enough to come when that happening though.
Speaking of timing, you can save money on everything from theme parks to hotels by traveling to Orlando, Florida when it isn’t peak season. If you come anytime during the summer you can expect to pay top dollar for everything. Not to mention you will be fighting the crowds. If you travel the first few months of the year and the last few months you’ll have an easier time doing it on a budget.
